I am beyond excited to share images from our styled shoot a few weeks ago! Our inspiration was the film Paper Moon, which if you haven’t seen, you should! Aside from wanting to shoot a picnic in a pretty field, the real challenge and draw for me was to build a paper moon photo booth. The paper moon is another forgotten piece of Americana that you should check out, in case you aren’t familiar with it. In my opinion, it is long overdue for a resurgence as the photo booth of choice. It was so windy the day we shot, it was nearly impossible to keep our props where we wanted them…though I have to say it added a certain romance to all the images.

The movie takes place in the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression and tells the story of a “father” and “daughter” who spend the summer grifting their way across the mid-west. We adapted the film’s plot for our shoot, and here is our couple’s story… Addie and Sam left their small hometown in Missouri looking for new opportunities and a new life together in California. While driving across country they stopped to elope at a brief courthouse ceremony. After their nuptials, they decide to celebrate with a romantic picnic for two just outside of town. They find a beautiful and secluded area and set up all their belonging for the afternoon and enjoy the sunshine. Oh, and of course a little stop in town at the local fair for some wedding photographs on the paper moon.

The props and furniture were nearly all vintage pieces and you can rent them for your own wedding or e-session too. The clothing is all vintage as well, with a nod to depression era fashion. The bride’s hair and makeup were all inspired by the era as well. A detailed chignon, smokey eyes and a red lip made our bride look fabulously 1930′s!

I could never have done this on my own of course…thank you so much to all the fabulous vendors who lent their services and inventory to make this shoot fabulous!

Earlier in April, Jana and Chris hopped on a plane out of New Orleans and headed to San Francisco for their big wedding weekend! When I say big though, I don’t mean lots of guests. The wedding party consisted of Jana, Chris, their officiant Ema, and myself. I truly love small elopements, and this particular one was no exception! I rarely get to spend more than half an hour photographing couples alone on their wedding day. You can imagine my joy in having well over an hour with Jana and Chris after their vows for portraits! So on a very sunny Friday morning, we headed to China Beach for their ceremony. Then we drove around Golden Gate Park stopping along the way at places we liked and taking lots of photographs. We found the most beautiful patch of blooming cherry blossoms and just enjoyed the beautiful sunshine! Finally, they celebrated with cupcakes in the Chinese Pavilion at Stowe Lake. Congratulations Jana and Chris, and thank you so much for letting me be a part of such an intimate celebration…I wish you all the happiness in the world!
