Category: Love It!

Ok, so I really love the charm of traditions and daily routines from the past. I think we all do, it gives us that warm feeling of nostalgia. Traditions and nostalgia are two things that unite us all as human beings. Sounds, smells or sights trigger powerful emotions in all of us. Being a photographer, it’s no surprise that my nostalgia is more so triggered by sight. So when I see something vintage or antique, I basically leave reality. Just for a split second I’m in another era, with no cell phone, no email, no internet…you get the picture. It’s very refreshing. All that technology has made life more efficient, but it’s hard to find a balance some days.

For example, the advancements made in air travel have made our lives easier and more time efficient, absolutely. It’s great that we can hop on a plane leaving Boston at 7pm and land in London the next morning around 7am. It just stinks that it’s accompanied by mini shampoo bottles in plastic baggies, bare feet in the security line, overpriced airport water and cramped seats on the aircraft. Still, it’s a small price to pay in my opinion.

When I started looking for a new piece of luggage this past summer, I so badly wanted something with a little vintage charm. Something that would sort of make me smile and forget about my toiletries baggie and bare feet.  I stumbled across a company called Steamline Luggage. Based out of the UK, Steamline Luggage currently carries eight different styles of cases, all inspired by a certain city in the world. They range in size from small Vanity Cases to larger sized Stowaways. The two largest sizes are rolling so you don’t even have to sacrifice that convenience. I ended up buying the Explorer Stowaway case with the brown leather trim (first image below). It’s made out of bine, so dings and dents don’t really ruin the beauty, they just enhance it. Oh yeah, I’ve never seen anyone with the same suitcase either.  Check them out, I guarantee carrying one of these will make you feel like you are catching the the next big steamliner to New York City. The prices are pretty reasonable compared to other vintage style cases…especially if you catch a sale!
