I was in SoCal for a week with my friend Sarah last month, and unsurprisingly we shot some beautiful stuff. Mainly because Sarah lined up models, hair and makeup artists, gowns, and created floral pieces. I asked if I could develop some small detail vignettes to create a story. Ask anyone I have ever worked with on personal projects…there has to be a story. Especially if the details are to be meaningful. For me, photography is all about telling stories. This shoot took on a weird mix of inspiration that started with a Melville quote, veered towards Keats (and Fanny of course), and finished on Frenchman’s Creek by du Maurier. That last one is something I would like explore more fully when I have the time. Her writing creates such vivid imagery that I can’t help but want to bring it to life through my work. To simplify, I just started calling this shoot The Sea.
